General Equipment Care

Keep the recording device at least one metre away from all electrical appliances, as they may cause interference.

Keep children and pets away from the equipment. Children or pets could accidentally disconnect the equipment or cause other incidents.

Handle the equipment with care, particularly when removing the electrodes and sensors in the morning.

Should I take my usual medications on the night of my test?

Yes. Since we aim to monitor your usual sleep you should take all your usual medications.

Should I take medication to help me sleep on the night of my test?

You should only take medication to help you sleep if you usually do so. Please record the use of any such medications on the evening/morning questionnaire.

Am I able to drink alcohol on the night of my test?

You should only drink alcohol on the night of your test if you usually do so. Please record alcohol consumption on the evening/morning questionnaire.

Am I able to wash wearing the equipment?

We suggest using a damp cloth to wash (including hands) while wearing the equipment. Please do not immerse any of the equipment in water.

Is there anything I need to do before going to bed?

No. Everything is already connected & requires no further activation.

What time should I go to bed/wake up?

Your home sleep study aims to record your normal sleep pattern; therefore you should go to bed and wake at your normal times.

What should I wear to bed?

You can wear your standard night attire during the study, although it is not possible to remove any clothing that is under bands around your chest and stomach. You may wear clothing over the top as well. Please be careful not to dislodge sensors when removing your outer clothing.

Do I need to start or stop the recording device?

The recording device is set to start and stop automatically. You do not need to press any buttons on the device.

Is it a problem if I accidentally press buttons on the device?

Once set up the recording device is locked. Accidental button pressing will not affect the recording.

Am I able to sleep in the same bed with my partner?

Yes. However, please record on the evening/morning questionnaire attached if anything, including your partner, disturbs your sleep during the night.

Am I able to sleep in any position?

Yes. The study aims to record your normal sleep pattern. Therefore you may sleep in any position you prefer. It is preferable to spend at least some of the night on your back.

What happens if I need to get up during the night?

You may get up as normal if required. Please be careful not to dislodge sensors when moving about.

What do I do if a sensor comes off?

If you know where the sensor was attached please reattach it. If not, simply leave it unattached and make a note of it on the evening/morning questionnaire.
